Do Your Own Research
The studies below look at each ingredient on its own, not the Amawell product. We share them so you can read the science for yourself. This page is for information only, not medical advice, and individual results vary.
R-Alpha Lipoic Acid
People with nerve damage from diabetes took alpha-lipoic acid as a daily pill for about 5 weeks. They reported less burning, stabbing, prickling and numbness than the group taking a dummy pill, and the lowest dose (600 mg a day) gave the best balance of relief and comfort. Read the clinical study
Over 6 months, adults with diabetic nerve pain who took alpha-lipoic acid by mouth reported less pain and got back more feeling and vibration sense in their feet, compared with those on a placebo. Read the clinical study
Researchers pooled 10 separate trials, over 1.200 people, and found that taking alpha-lipoic acid by mouth lowered people's overall nerve-symptom scores: the burning, tingling and numbness they were tracking. Read the clinical study
PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide)
Adults with painful diabetic nerve damage took 600 mg of PEA a day for 8 weeks. They reported clearly less nerve pain, and less of that pain getting in the way of daily life, than the placebo group. Read the clinical study
People with diabetic nerve pain took micronized PEA at 600 mg a day for two months. Their pain and nerve-symptom scores dropped at both the first month and second month check-ins. Read the clinical study
Researchers combined 11 high-quality trials and found that PEA lowered chronic-pain scores compared with placebo or usual care, and was well tolerated. Read the clinical study
People with nerve pain from diabetes or injury added PEA to their usual treatment. Their pain started easing within about 10 days and kept improving over 40 days. Read the clinical study
Benfotiamine (Vitamin B1)
People with diabetic nerve damage took benfotiamine, a well-absorbed form of vitamin B1, for 6 weeks. Their nerve-symptom scores improved versus placebo, with more relief the longer they took it. Read the clinical study
In just 3 weeks, people taking benfotiamine reported better nerve-symptom scores and less pain than those on a placebo. Read the clinical study
This study compared benfotiamine doses in people with painful diabetic neuropathy. The biggest improvement was in pain, and the higher dose worked best. Read the clinical study
Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12)
Adults with diabetic nerve damage took 1.000 mcg of methylcobalamin (B12) a day by mouth for a full year. They ended up with less pain, better nerve signalling, and a better quality of life than the placebo group. Read the clinical study
People with diabetic nerve damage who took methylcobalamin reported real improvement in symptoms like pain, numbness and pins-and-needles over about 4 months. Read the clinical study
Reviewing seven controlled trials, researchers found that B12, including methylcobalamin, helped ease nerve-pain symptoms like pain and tingling. Read clinical the study
